Lesson Policy

Dear Student/Parent,

 

Welcome to drum/percussion lessons at Drum Star Studio.

This is a new student packet that is provided to every new drum/percussion student when they start lessons.
I want to tell you that I'm thrilled to take you on as a student!  These are the guidelines to see that you get the most out of our time together.  Please read the packet and contact me if you have any questions.
 

In this packet you will find the following:

 Lesson Policy- This provides the guidelines upon which the lessons operate. Please read the entire policy carefully and feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. The lesson policy is for you to keep.

 

 Lesson Policy Contract- Once you have read the Lesson Policy, the Lesson Policy Contract is to be signed by all involved parties and returned to me on the next lesson. If the student is assuming financial and transportation responsibilities, the parents do not need to sign or fill out any of the enclosed forms.

 

 Student Information Sheet- Please fill out this sheet and bring it back to me by the next lesson. In case of an emergency I need to be able to get in touch with you as soon as possible by any means.

Important Point:

Please remember that, like many private music teachers, all of my students are studying with a working professional. There will be times that I will need to shift or cancel students due to gigs, rehearsals, clinics, and concerts. These events may occur any day of the week but I will be sure to let you know in advance. Lessons that are cancelled due to my conflicts will not be charged to the student. LESSON POLICY

 

FOREWARD: When a student undertakes drum lessons, the student is undertaking a responsibility: a responsibility to show up on time for lessons, to bring all materials, to practice, to pay on time, and to notify of cancellations and termination of lessons. Students not willing to undertake this responsibility are advised to reconsider their initial motives for taking drum lessons. The proper method for imparting adequate instruction requires this kind of responsibility on the part of the student.

 

PRACTICE: All students are encouraged and required to practice at least one twenty minutes every day. 
 

PAYMENT: Payment is accepted by check.

All lesson fees are to be paid in advance at the beginning of the month and are REFUNDABLE on a case by case basis by the teacher.  Normally, students will be notified in advance when payment is due. If payment is not received at the beginning of the second lesson after the payment due date, the student will not be taught that lesson, will be charged for that lesson, and will not be given any more lessons until payment is received. Failure to reconcile the matter of payment within two weeks after the due date may result in the loss of the student’s time slot.

 

CANCELLATION OF LESSONS: In order to cancel a lesson, the requirement is at least a 24 hour notification prior to the lesson that is being cancelled. Please notify the teacher either in person or by phone of any and all cancellations. If the student is unable to contact the teacher prior to the cancelled lesson time, then the student is to contact the teacher as soon as possible afterwards (either that night or the next day) with the reason for cancellation. There is NO CHARGE for lessons that are cancelled by the teacher.

 

MISSED LESSONS: Students that miss a lesson or lessons without either notification or an adequate excuse will be charged for the lesson(s). Absent students have the responsibility to contact the teacher as soon as possible with a reason for absence. Failure in taking prompt action on missed lessons will result in a charge for the missed lesson(s). Please remember that the student is paying for the teacher’s time as well as his instruction.

  

MAKE-UP LESSONS: I do take make –up lessons on a case-by-case basis. I make every effort to make the missed lesson up if possible.  If we cannot make up the lesson then depending on the reason or circumstances I will choose to charge you or not charge you for the missed lesson(s).

 

TERMINATION OF LESSONS: The requirement of intent to terminate lessons is at least two weeks, unless in the case of extreme emergency. I must be informed by the student or parent of termination of lessons. Students not adhering to this requirement may risk forfeiture of monthly payment.

 

TARDINESS: Students not arriving at their lesson at least ten minutes after their assigned lesson time will be considered absent and there will be no make up lesson if teacher is not contacted.

 

LESSON MATERIALS: Students are responsible for bringing their sticks, notebook, instruction books, and all related material and hand-outs to each and every lesson as designated by the teacher.

 

LESSON PRIVACY: Lessons are given on a “one to one” basis but  parents, siblings, or friends will be allowed in the teaching room during the lesson as long as they are not a distraction.   If I feel you are hindering our lesson I will kindly ask you to leave.

 

PHONE/ADDRESS CHANGE: Students are responsible to inform the teacher promptly of any changes in phone number and/or address. This information is vital to the smooth execution of any teaching operation.
